Brief Information on SATA:

Thanks to the courage and vision of five entrepreneurs from the Azores, the “Sociedade Açoreana de Transportes Aéreos” company was founded in 1941, conquering the skies on June 15, 1947 with its first passenger-carrying aircraft. In 1999,  SATA joined the European Regional Airlines Association, ERA and International Air Transport Association, IATA. Today located between Europe and the Americas in beautiful Azores Islands,it offers its customers a fleet of twelve aircraft, shared almost equally by the two airline companies that comprise the Group: SATA Air Açores, which operates four BAe ATPs and one Dornier on inter-island services, and SATA Internacional, which operates four Airbus 310-300s, and three Airbus  320-200 on external routes.
Last year, it operated over 11,000 flights connecting the nine islands in the Azorean archipelago and almost six thousand flights outside the Autonomous Region of the Azores In terms of passenger numbers, too, the figures are very different nowadays: in 2006 SATA Internacional and SATA Air Açores together carried more than 1 million and 300  passengers.
