Nevra Onursal Karaağaç: "Our Solutions Support Sustainability Efforts"
Emphasizing that Hitit, which places sustainability at the core of its business strategies, will continue to focus on key criteria such as the environment, climate change, biodiversity, human rights, and governance structure, CEO Nevra Onursal Karaağaç stated:
“Sustainability is one of the most important topics in the airline and travel industry. Although aviation accounts for a relatively small share of about three percent in terms of sustainability, public perception does not align with this reality. For this reason, IATA has set a NetZero target for 2050 and made a commitment to reduce airlines' carbon emissions to zero. Consequently, airlines are undertaking significant efforts to reduce their carbon emissions. Hitit's cost accounting solution, Crane.CA, will play a significant role in helping airlines achieve their 2050 targets. We also value partnerships in our industry's sustainability efforts; as a member of the Sustainable Aviation Platform, established under the leadership of Turkish Airlines, Boeing, and Istanbul Technical University, we contribute to the development of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) roadmap.”
Ms. Karaağaç: We Will Be a Permanent Member of the BIST Sustainability Index
Highlighting that Hitit has taken significant steps in its own sustainability journey, Ms. Karaağaç emphasized the company's evaluation of its carbon emissions and environmental impact footprint in accordance with national and international standards. Summarizing the efforts undertaken for the company, Ms. Karaağaç stated:
“We are taking significant steps in our own sustainability journey. We evaluate our company's carbon emissions and environmental impact footprint in accordance with national and international standards. In addition to analyzing Scope 1 and Scope 2 data, we also collaborate with our partners to accurately determine Scope 3 data. Aligning our activities with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations is our primary motivation behind all our business and social processes. We conduct all our operations in ways that contribute to areas such as gender equality, responsible consumption and production, quality education, healthy living, reducing inequalities, and access to clean water and sanitation. Through these efforts, we strive to integrate sustainability into every aspect of life. Diversity and inclusion have been fundamental principles of our company culture since its founding. With 38% of our employees, 50% of our Board of Directors, and over 60% of our management team being women, we surpass global averages in workplace gender diversity.
This stance is reflected in our employment policies, social responsibility projects, and active participation in industry-wide initiatives, such as IATA's '25by2025 Project,' which aims to increase women's representation in the aviation industry to at least 25% by 2025. Since 2018, we have been carrying out ‘Rackets Up’, Türkiye's first sustainable table tennis project, which has introduced table tennis to more than 160,000 students and 430 teachers from 411 public schools, without any gender discrimination. Additionally, we collaborate with universities through academic partnerships to support quality education and reduce gender inequalities in education. We focus on developing the technical skills of vocational high school students, particularly those who face difficulties in securing qualified employment, to make them employable in the field of aviation software. We are taking steps to bridge the digital divide by donating our technological equipment to underprivileged schools in Anatolia.
We will continue to work towards becoming a permanent member of the BIST Sustainability Index with efforts that we will increasingly accelerate moving forward.”
