Nur Gökman, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Hitit, was awarded the Special Jury Award in the Category – Inspiring Role Model for her contributions to the aviation industry. Ms. Gökman, who has accomplished many ground-breaking achievements during her career covering over 50 years in aviation, won the appreciation of IATA's Jury with her achievements and policies that provided the impetus for high women’s employment at Hitit.
6 June 2023 / ISTANBUL – The Diversity & Inclusion Awards, organized annually by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), were presented on June 5 at the 79th IATA Annual General Meeting in İstanbul, Türkiye. IATA’s Diversity & Inclusion Awards recognize individuals, organizations and initiatives that have made significant contributions to promoting and advancing diversity and inclusion with in the aviation industry. Nur Gökman was honored with the Special Jury Award for her contributions to the aviation industry as a woman, and her multi-faceted impact on the development of an inclusive culture in the industry.
Surpassing Global Norms: Rates Above the World Average
Nur Gökman said: “We founded Hitit 29 years ago as two female entrepreneurs. Focusing on diversity and inclusion, Hitit today provides software solutions and services in PSS, operations, accounting, travel solutions and cargo areas to 67 airlines and 700+ airports on 6 continents. The success we achieve is greatly influenced by our sustainable and innovative approach, which embraces egalitarianism and inclusiveness, which is reflected in all aspects of our business operations at Hitit. Today, we have the highest ratio of female executives among publicly traded companies with in the software industry in Türkiye. With 50% of our Board of Directors, 65% of our senior management and 37% of our entire workforce consists of women, we are an example not only in Türkiye but also to the rest of the world.”
Ms. Gökman: “Our Social Responsibility Approach Reflects Diversity and Inclusion”
Reiterating that our approach to diversity and inclusion at Hitit is not limited simply to employment, Ms. Gökman stated that as a company, we shape our approach to social responsibility in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Ms. Gökman said, “At Hitit, we aim to reduce opportunity inequalities by the proactive steps we take in the field of education. We try to participate in projects that support gender equality in education. We train women in STEM through the various associations and platforms we are a member of here at Hitit. We prioritize young women in internships and recruitment, and contribute to their development by providing mentorship and scholarship opportunities. With our “Rackets Up” project, we aim to bring girls and boys together with sports as equals – based on merit alone –and we continue our work for all these reasons.”
