Regula, a global developer of forensic devices and identity verification solutions, elevated check-in for Tunisian Nouvelair airline through its partnership with Hitit, a leading airline and travel IT solutions provider. By enabling a fully remote, app-based flight check-in process, Nouvelair has achieved a 25% reduction in operation costs and significantly streamlined the boarding process–a great improvement for the airline’s efficiency and customer satisfaction.
07 January 2025, Istanbul – Prior to implementing online check-in, Nouvelair’s onboarding process relied entirely on manual document verification, seat allocation, and paper boarding passes. This traditional system required passengers to arrive at the airport hours before departure, leading to long queues, heightened stress levels, and bottlenecks at the airline’s counters. Recognizing the need for a customer-centric, efficient, and flexible solution, Nouvelair launched an online check-in system and empowered it with Hitit’s Crane Mobile Application (Crane.MA) and Regula Document Reader SDK.
This integrated system allowed Nouvelair to fully automate its check-in procedure. Now, passengers can simply scan their travel documents, such as passports and visas, using their smartphone cameras from the comfort of their homes. Once their IDs are verified, they can proceed to seat selection and get an electronic boarding pass.
The whole check-in process takes mere seconds, thanks to the advanced Regula Document Reader SDK. Regula’s solution:
● Automatically recognizes document types and verifies their validity for travel
● Extracts data from visual and machine-readable (MRZ) zones
● Cross-checks information for consistency to detect potential fraud
With the world’s most comprehensive proprietary database of over 14,000 identity document templates from 251 countries and territories, Regula Document Reader SDK ensures fast and reliable verification for nearly any travel document the airline may encounter.
Soon after the launch of the online check-in system, more than 20% of Nouvelair’s customers switched to this method of preparing to travel. This has led to a significant reduction in manual workload and operation costs–up to 25%. Nouvelair expects that next year more than 30% of its passengers will use online check-in, which will result in more operational efficiency and better customer experience.
“As part of its digital transformation strategy and commitment to becoming a retailing airline focused on improving passenger experiences, Nouvelair has successfully launched a new and enhanced online check-in service. This service is accessible via digital platforms, catering to all passengers across all operational stations worldwide. The success of this initiative is attributed to several key factors: Nouvelair commitment to passenger satisfaction, the project agility, and innovative technology proposed by Regula and Hitit,” commented Ramzi Fazzi, Chief Information Officer of Nouvelair.
“As Nouvelair’s longstanding IT provider, we have been proud to support their growth through cutting-edge solutions. Our Crane Mobile Application suite is one of the keystones in translating Nouvelair’s vision into an omnichannel, customer-centric travel experience spanning the whole journey, and we are very glad to see it so well-received by their passengers. By joining forces with Regula, a global leader in identity verification solutions, we ensured a brief and streamlined implementation process and, as a result, introduced enhanced passenger self-service capabilities into Nouvelair’s mobile channels. This will not only lead to increased customer experience and satisfaction in the short term but also lay down the foundation to seamlessly scale into further capabilities as our industry develops towards digital travel credentials. We thank both Nouvelair and Regula for this great collaboration, and look forward to further strengthening our partnership,” said Nevra Onursal Karaağaç, Hitit’s Chief Executive Officer.
“This project with Nouvelair and Hitit showcases how advanced identity verification solutions can improve the travel experience. We are impressed with the quick and tangible results the airline has received just after a few months of using the new solution. And this is exactly what we at Regula are committed to: to streamline and improve routine tasks, like compulsory document checks, while enhancing security, efficiency, and overall customer experience. In other words, we aim to empower organizations to meet modern demands and set new standards in their industries,” added Ihar Kliashchou, Chief Technology Officer at Regula.
